Types Of Caravans

Single Axle Caravan

Here is a brief overview of the types of caravan available…

Depending on the size and layout of the interior, caravans usually sleep between two and six people.
Internal dimensions tend to range from 10ft(3m) to 20ft(6m).
A larger caravan will, of course, need a more powerful vehicle to tow it.

Caravan beds (berths) usually fold away – leaving a sitting area, a washroom (with toilet, washbasin and shower) and a kitchen area.

Double Axle Caravan

Most caravans have a single axle although larger, heavier models may use double-axles…

  • Single axle caravans are easier to reverse.
  • Double axle caravans are less likely to experience ’sway’ while travelling.
  • Generally speaking, the majority of caravans are only suitable for use on tarmac roads.
For extended off-road towing, you’ll need an All Terrain Caravan with strengthened axles, chassis and bodywork.
